Race-Meet Report 20.05.2012 PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 21 May 2012

Today saw Round 2 of the Short Course Jam series at Badlands Raceway. After all the electric racing recently Short Course Truck numbers were down, which was a shame for those that missed out because as usual we came up with great track design for this race day. Unlike previous race days for the Short Course Jam & Madness series where we used the same piece of track twice in the one lap, today we had an option. After the first couple of turns racers had the choice to take one of two paths that resulted with both sections of track meeting together at a junction in time for the last rythym section of the track. In 2wd SCT there really seemed to be no difference which way you chose. It made for some great racing, coupled with extra pressure put on yourself trying to not make a mistake all the time wondering how racers that took the other line were fareing, and trying to beat the other driver(s) to the joining junction. It really proved for some great racing. Scotty 2 Hotty took 1st in 4wd SCT and Paul Garner taking 1st in 2wd. Peter Willsher showing consistencey and finishing in 3rd in both classes.

With the popularity of 1/10th Electric increasing there were 7 entrants in 4wd Buggy, and 4 in 2wd Electric with some regulars not being able to enter the classes! As most will know we run these classes 'Open' allowing all forms of motors and ESC's which in itself makes for some interesting racing as different cars have strengths and weaknesses in different sections of the track. Boxhead kept up his consistency taking 1st in 4wd with some great duels between Bam Bam & Rok over the 4 rounds with Bam taking 2nd and Rok 3rd overall. Peter Willsher took first in 2wd and after more great duels, Bam took 2nd in his Stock Stadium Truck, from Ralph in his 540 buggy.

The 7 entrants in 1/8th Pro Buggy coupled with the 2 entrants in 1/8th Buggy made for some great and hectic racing keeping the marshalls very busy! Matty Griffin showed his skill again taking the top spot, followed by more great driving from Paul Goodi, and BADRC Committee Member Gus taking 3rd. Karl Piepkorn showed some great racing and had a great duel in the first race with Matty G until air leaks cost the drivability of the car. With the (thirsty) track regularly watered the 1/8th boys made the most of the traction and the airtime that they were getting impressed those in attendance.

After all the pressure of the recent ORCCA round, this more relaxed meet seemed to bring out the smiles and alot of people having great races together. We've never seen so much good sportsmanship and handshaking after race-meets, it was great to see!

Thanks to Club President Sean Connolly for giving up his race day to run the computer and hand write the results after the printer blew a gear set. Thanks to Club Treasurer Suzie Cowie for all the running around, and getting the BBQ underway, thanks also to Club Member Matty Whyte, who was unable to race, but called in and ended up running the BBQ also. Massive thanks to the usual surface crew of Club Committee Members Karl Piepkorn and Jamie O'Brien for the watering on the day and and days prior also. Club Committee Member Peter Willsher was able to get some video footage of the day and will have them uploaded when possible.

Club Member Points have been updated. Gus has taken the lead in the Pro Buggy class,  S2H has moved in to the lead in 1/8 electric, Smiley has a commanding lead in the 1/10th 2wd class, 1/10th 4wd has a mixed bag with sporadic attendance. In 2wd SCT Shepp's Paul Garner has a narrow lead over Smiley and S2H who are tied in 2nd, with S2H swapping this for 4wd SCT taking the lead from Paul Garner.

With 1 final round of the Short Course Jam to be run, Paul Garner has taken the lead in both 2wd and 4w, and young Jayden Garner tied for the lead with new comer Emre Bur in Junior SCT.
